Nature Visions Expo 2011

Nature Visions Expo is an annual juried exhibit of nature photography: http://naturevisions.org/. Each year many images are submitted and a panel of judges determines which make it into the exhibition.

As the deadline for entering images into the 2012 Nature Visions approaches, I am offering two of my images that made it into the exhibition last year.

Stock Photography Journey – September 2012

So I am pretty much back on schedule now, hopefully it will stay that way! Here are the September 2012 statistics.

September has been my best month so far. A $39 single image sale on Alamy helped a lot – see previous post for more information. Veer sale of $7 also helped.

Shutterstock with $12.57 and  Dreamstime with $10.33 were performing well joined by Yay Micro at $8.10.

To summarize, I have images offered through 23 stock photography websites at this time, even though I am considering not maintaining all of them – time will tell (links to most are offered on the right side of the page).

The Bottom Line – Total Revenue

This includes income from image sales and any other bonuses and referral revenue. What is the bottom line for September 2012? The total comes to $88.31, strongest month yet.

Number of Image Downloads

Total of 70 downloads this month – up from 56 in the previous month. This is the absolute number of downloads. One would expect this number to go up over time as more images are added to the portfolio (which I have not done for months :) ).

Earnings from Image Sales

Total of $88.05 this month even with $34.49 in the previous month.  Absolute earnings from all images available for sale.

Portfolio Size

This is the total count of images available for sale. The variances in the size of the portfolio is mostly due to the speed with which various stock photography websites process uploads and how strict they are in their acceptance criteria. As you can see, I have not been very good at expanding my portfolio lately.

Stock Photography Journey – August 2012

All right – I am officially late again! I did a lot of travelling and shooting over the summer so hopefully I’ll get more disciplined with posting the stats from now on. Here are the August 2012 statistics. August  was comparable to July – perhaps buyers take vacations in the summer, too. I have a lot of images to process and upload – seems to me like that my be a wintertime activity for me. Shutterstock with $13.01 and  Dreamstime with $13.03 were very even this month.

To summarize, I have images offered through 23 stock photography websites at this time, even though I am considering not maintaining all of them – time will tell (links to most are offered on the right side of the page).

Stock Photography Journey – July 2012

Not exactly on time, here are the July 2012 statistics. July was not as strong as June, but still not a bad month especially considering I have not had time to upload new images for a very long time. Shutterstock with $11.02 and  Dreamstime with $8.85 were once more in the lead.

With a bit of delay, I know, here are the June 2012 statistics. June was my strongest month yet, two great months in a row. I finally had a download from Alamy netting $17.40. I had a second month with sales at Veer. Shutterstock was a lot weaker than previously but Dreamstime did well at $15.30.

Stock Photography Journey – April 2012

Another month is over so here are the April 2012 statistics. April was not as strong as March for me, mostly due to fewer higher priced on demand downloads on Shutterstock . The cumulative sales this year to date are $71.22, over half – $39.20 from Shutterstock. The second biggest earner year to date is Dreamstime at $10.64 for image sales and additional $5 in referral income.

The downloads decreased slightly from 44 in March to 40 in April (compared to 36 in February and 26 in January). The drop in revenue was mostly due to lower sales per download ration.

Number of Image Downloads

Total of 40 downloads this month – down from 44 in the previous month. This is the absolute number of downloads. One would expect this number to go up over time as more images are added to the portfolio.

Stock Photography Journey – January 2012

In the month of January, I began to submit my images to several microstock photography websites.

Did you ever wonder where the pictures of all the smiling awake people in business meetings in the presentations at work came from? Stock photography agencies, most likely. I always wondered why people don’t use more realistic images and let a few of the meeting attendees doze off here and there…. I guess that doesn’t sell ;).

For photographers, stock photography can get addicting. I suspect it would be similar to fantasy football – the compulsion to check your stats all the time (of course I would not know about that).

So as an introduction, I am offering my January 2012 statistics. I will do my best to post my stock photography results at the end of each month….

Most successful image of the month

Let me introduce the most successful image of the month with 4 downloads.

Portrait Session – Two Boys
